About Us

History

Driven by a commitment to excellence, we will work consistently to grow, harvest and process almonds.

With a foundation rooted in faith, we place our trust in the Lord for guidance and the fulfillment of our purpose. Our united pursuit of hard work, determination and divine guidance forms the cornerstone of our family’s operation and inspires us to make a positive impact on the world.

The story of Holfman & Son began in 1941 when Klaas Winters bought 130 acres on Louise Avenue in Manteca. He sold 62 acres to his daughter, Jennie, and her husband, Edward Holfman, and they started a small dairy. Over time, squash, pumpkins, melons and alfalfa were added.

Early in the 1950s, Ed and his son, Daryl, sold their cows and transitioned to almonds. By 1962, father and son had built a small huller on their property to process their nuts after they were hand-knocked off the trees onto canvas tarps. The huller opened the door to additional work, allowing Ed and Daryl to service other nut growers.

As the years passed, Holfman & Son expanded, adding shakers, sweepers, pick-up machines and field elevators to make the harvest process quicker and more efficient. As the company grew, Ed and Daryl never wavered from their commitment to clients – to always work hard with integrity and honesty to provide quality service.

Ed Holfman passed away in 1990, leaving Daryl and his employees to carry on. In 2009, Daryl’s son, Brent, joined the operation after serving in the military, becoming the third generation to work in the company. Holfman & Son was whole once again.

After the 2020 harvest, the original huller was retired. A new huller and sheller was built that incorporated the latest technology, allowing the company to expand its processing capacity.

Holfman & Son is proud of the quality service it has provided to almond growers in the Central Valley for more than 60 years.
